Youth defenders see the impact of this systemic racial injustice on their clients every day. In order to increase youth defenders’ effectiveness in making racial justice arguments and to fully embrace their vital role in working toward a solution, juvenile defenders need access to history, data, and research that defines the over-policing, over-criminalization, and school exclusion experienced by youth of color. The resources offered in this introductory section illuminate the nature and scope of the over-criminalization of youth of color and provide advocates with materials they need to advance the fight for racial justice advocacy.
